![]() ![]() ![]() While newer fans may have trouble getting into stories about characters they barely know, New Frontier offers a fascinating mix of classic war heroes and DC's Silver Age superheroes. The Korean conflict is met by such daring heroes as ace pilot Hal Jordan, who later enters the space race, but not in quite the way you might expect. The true stars of The New Frontier are the more human characters, including the Challengers of the Unknown and the Suicide Squad. It is one of the most challenging times in American history and the heroes of the DCU find themselves at the heart of these conflicts. The cry for civil rights has begun and race riots are on the horizon. The Cold War is in full force and paranoia is sweeping through America. Most of our battles against the bizarre are left to human heroes. Others, including Barry Allen, the Flash, risk arrest (or worse) each time he puts on the suit. Batman, featuring the giant ears and classic look of the Bob Kane/Bill Finger era, is one of the few who receives little grief from the Gotham PD, but only because he put the beat-down on the world's beloved Boy Scout. With vigilantism outlawed, Superman and Wonder Woman are the only sanctioned metahumans. The New Frontier stretches across the '50s, but most of our favorite DC heroes are either retired or running from the law. ![]()
